When bleeding is under control, apply bandage to hold dressing in place. Do not impede fluid or bleeding from ears, nose, or mouth. Arrange for immediate transfer to hospital. Cleanse wound and apply sterile dressing as needed. Limit activity for 24 hours. Advise to take clear, cold, sweet liquids for 8 hours followed by reduced amounts of food for next 24 hours. Instruct in reporting signs or symptoms of more serious head injury and seeking emergency treatment.
