An interdisciplinary approach provides a broad range of expertise to identify hazards, establish objectives, and establish effective controls. Company or corporate health and safety profession- als should be invited to appropriate scheduled meetings or should be included as staff advisers to the committee. Consultation from a variety of health and safety professionals available either at the company or in the community can provide additional expertise to meet the committee goals and objectives effectively. For example, the external company physician might also serve as a member of or adviser to the committee. Nursing Roles Each representative on the committee plays an important role. The OHN should be represented on the committee and should actively support the committee as chairperson, member, adviser, or consultant. The OHN also can assist with health monitoring that is identified as needed or for assistance with establishing biological surveillance programs. Further, the OHN can provide expertise regarding group dynamics and can foster a team approach among the committee members. 251 Interdisciplinary Interactions and Collaboration
