Follow-up Actions Conduct worksite assessment to identify potential risk factors for overexertion and prevention strategies (lifting aids, redesign of task, etc.). Review treatment plans provided by private health care provider. Discuss importance of proper lift- ing techniques. Assist with return to work assess need for accommodations based on job duties. Obtain pertinent history. Determine extent of injury and prevent further injury. Inquire about contributing or causative events at the time of onset, including work events (such as lifting, standing) and non- work-related activities. Ask about presence of colicky abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, groin pain, swelling, and aggravating or alleviating fac- tors, such as symptoms worse with stand- ing, straining, coughing, or lifting. Assess site to determine type of hernia. Arrange for immediate medical evaluation if bowel incarceration is suspected.
